Hurricane Helene
Date: 15th October 2024Hurricane Helene, As many of you are aware, Western North Carolina has seen unprecedented flooding due to Hurricane Helene. The damage and devastation are unfathomable. As a family company, Tom and Eric Klause lived in this area for 10 years. Eric worked in emergency services eight of those years.
A-1 Moving & Storage began taking donations starting September 30th in hopes of filling at least one tractor-trailer. We asked for donations of non-perishable food, bottled water, new unopened toiletries and other items essential for survival. From Monday-Friday, A-1 Moving & Storage collected cash donations as well. All of the money was utilized to purchase relief supplies. We also received donations at our warehouse and a few businesses around town. Everyone came together to fill this truck and more! With the money collected, and the donated supplies, we were able to load a 53’ semi-tractor trailer, 26’ straight truck, 24’ enclosed trailer and 2- 16’ containers with all the donations for a total of 80,000 pounds of supplies. Our community turned out and we are so grateful for everyone far and wide who came together to support this effort. The drivers left early on Sunday, October 6th for Buncombe County. After an overnight in Greenville, SC, they arrived at the Buncombe County’s Emergency Management warehouse and delivered all goods by 11a. They were back in Jupiter the next day, and started to prep their own homes for the Hurricane Milton.
We have so many people to thank and we can’t even begin to say “thank you” enough to everyone to who came together. The pictures do not do justice to the amount of donations that we received, both in goods and monetary donation that allowed us to purchase so many needed items.
